Our Story

IF YOU JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER

YOU MIGHT MISS OUT ON AN AMAZING STORY

We still remember walking down the driveway of our rundown two acre block for the very first time. The grass was waist high, the yard scattered with odds and ends, and six old ovens and washing machines were lined up out the front. It was rough, and it looked nothing like a flower farm.

But we looked at each other and just knew.
This was the beginning of our next adventure.

 the beginning of

LITTLE LYNDOCH FLOWER FARM

From the moment we got the keys, we moved straight in. We spent the first six months clearing rubbish, cleaning sheds, and slowly bringing the farm back to life. Little did we know we would be living in our gutted farmhouse for the next 4 years…

During our first summer on the farm, Rob grew his first six dahlia plants, purchased from our local hardware store and he fell in love with growing.

I was deep in wedding season, designing flowers and setting up events for our floral design business, The Queens Quarters. Every day, I’d come home to updates about new leaves, fresh buds, or how beautiful the colour of a bloom was.

One evening, while we were watering our little patch, we started talking.
“Imagine if we could grow our own flowers…”

The idea of walking through our own garden, gathering blooms for weddings and events, lit something up in both of us.

The thought of offering flowers grown right here on our farm, fresh, local, and personal felt like a dream worth chasing. So that night, we made a decision to start growing flowers.

No plan, no farming experience, just a whole lot of heart and optimism. We threw ourselves into learning, ready to get it wrong, and to grow something beautiful together.

Our flower farming journey began with a gifted greenhouse from our Uncle Lucky. What started with just six dahlias quickly grew to one hundred.

That structure gave us the space to experiment, to trial growing, learn from our mistakes, and fall in love with the process. Somewhere in that first season, we uncovered a deep passion for growing flowers and started making plans to expand our little patch into a cut flower farm.

In 2020, as summer ended and weddings came to a sudden halt, the world around us shifted. But instead of stopping, Rob and I focused on what we could do. I sketched a garden in my notebook and named it
“The Cutting Garden”, a tiered space that would make use of the hillside in the back corner of our property.

I imagined raised beds full of blooms, a place for us to spend long summer days, and one day, a garden for visitors and workshop guests to walk through and feel what we feel when we’re amongst the flowers.

We didn’t have the funds to start this project, so we made a big call and sold our entire hire collection from our floral design studio.

We spent the next five months building our cutting garden together, sharing the entire process through daily stories on Instagram. That’s when something very special started to happen.

People began to follow along, cheer us on, and grow curious about what we were building. Our cutting garden didn’t just grow flowers, it began growing an incredible online community too.

the growth of

LITTLE LYNDOCH FLOWER FARM

We had officially outgrown our little greenhouse, and both our vision and our business were growing faster than we could have imagined. To keep up, we created additional growing beds at the front of the farm…

In our first official season, we grew 500 dahlias at the front of our farm and quickly realised this was no longer just a side project…

That same year, we planted 4,000 ranunculus in the side field. The moment they bloomed, we knew they were here to stay. Their delicate, ruffled petals have become a staple in our garden, and we now share our corms each year with our community.

Today, we grow over 2,500 dahlias and 8,000 ranunculus each season.

The Dahlia Patch now sits proudly at the front of our property, a sea of colour that’s become a favourite for locals passing by.

As our farm and online community grew, so did the desire to create something deeper, something that would nurture not just flowers but people too.

That’s how The Bloom Retreat was born: a space for creatives, flower farmers, and florists to learn, connect, and feel empowered to begin their own life among the blooms!

Our business is now built on creativity, education, and connection, all through a deep love of flowers. We share everything we’ve learnt online, from gardening advice to floristry tips, in the hope of inspiring others to discover the magic of flowers.

Whether you’ve been with us from the beginning or you’re just finding us now, we hope you leave feeling encouraged to chase your own dream, or simply spend a little more time in your garden.
